Weekend Recap: Survival Kits & Blogger Brunchin'

Monday, October 27, 2014

Happy Monday, lovelies!

Sure, those two words don't usually go together, but I had a pretty great weekend so there we have it. My weekends are usually not recap-worthy, so when they actually are interesting enough to blog about, we blog about them.

Friday

NaNoWriMo
Friday night was spent prepping for NaNoWriMo. I've always wanted to participate but either never had a viable idea or didn't have the time. Now that I have both, I'm very excited to join in. So I spent most of Friday night registering on the NaNoWriMo website, filling out my profile and scrolling through the forums. I also watched way more YouTube videos about the event then I care to admit, picking up tips and tricks for the month-long marathon. Next task, to create a NaNoWriMo Survival Kit, because apparently survival is not guaranteed. Why am I doing this again?

Saturday

#NYCBloggerBrunch
Stolen from The Sequin Notebook <3
Is it considered my first blate if I spent the afternoon with not just one, but five other great blogging ladies? Well, it was my first "blogging event" and it was such fun. It all began with a simple blogger brunch in the East Village at Forcella hosted by B & M of The Sequin Notebook. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, so there was nothing to drown out our chatter. I don't have any pictures of us brunchin' because, well, (1) we were too busy chatting our heads off to take very many, and (2) the very few pictures we actually took weren't taken by me. I know, Bad Blogger Award goes to yours truly.

The wonderful gifts the girls over at The Sequin Notebook gave us at brunch!

However, I did take a few pictures of the fashion event hosted by Simply Stylist that we went to afterwards at the Park Central Hotel. Redeemed? I think so.
When I'm really happy I smile so big that my eyes get really small and my cheeks get really big. Clearly, I'm a happy gal :)

PSU v. OSU
I almost didn't wanna talk about it because, hello shitty officiating. But it did actually happen this weekend so here we are. The game began with an incorrect fumble recovery call, which resulted in an OSU touchdown, and the officiating when down from there. So basically, we lost because the refs are blind. The end.

Sunday

Business Cards
One of the benefits of brunchin' with bloggers, aside from meeting some lovely ladies? Being blog educated. Now I love TKD; it's home. But I made a mental note sometime last month that I wanted to make my little corner of the internet more than what it is. Imagine my embarassment when two ideas that I never even considered were mentioned to me. While I walked around the Simply Stylist event willy-nilly Saturday night, Kristen (thanks Kristen!) mentioned her blog business cards and I was all like "I don't have blog business cards". I reiterate, Bad Blogger Award, over here. So I spent quite a bit of Sunday afternoon, researching blog business cards, the dos, the don'ts, the types and the prints. I haven't pressed the order button just yet, but I'm working on them. At least now I'm making strides in the right direction.

Blog Facebook Page
Yet another thing I needed to get on. I don't connect my personal FB page to my blog because of employment reasons, but when dear Pam (thanks girl!) suggested I just create a separate page for my blog, I had another face-palm moment. Of course, I should just do that! And so it has been done :) Seriously ladies, where have you been all my life?

Sunday Footbawl!
Same shit, different day. Except not this week. It looks like I've finally broken my losing streak! With all my losses, there's no way I'm making a playoff game, but I hate losing.

First Hocus Pocus
It's late this year. I've usually had my first Hocus Pocus by the 1st of October. But Halloween, and Fall-O-Ween too, aren't complete if I don't watch this movie at least once during the season. Maybe twice. Best. Halloween. Movie. Ever.

I think that caps this weekend recap perfectly, don't you? How was your weekend? Tell me all about it!

Recap: Sore-losing & Being A Nutella Jar

Monday, September 22, 2014

Am I the only blogger who doesn't find my weekends blog-worthy enough to warrant a weekly "weekend recap" post? It seems to me that every Monday like clockwork my bloglovin' feed in flooded with posts about weekend roadtrips and other interesting and exciting extravaganzas. I mean, sure, I do things. But do you really wanna see pictures of my current novel, a date night or the inside of some lounge/bar first thing every single Monday morning? Because I surely don't want to spend every Sunday night writing up such posts.

Anyway, I checked my phone's photo album today and realized I had the strangest combination of pictures from the past couple days, and thought "I think I'll participate this week". And well, with my participation in link-up type posts being at an all time high recently (note: it's only been 2, counting this one lol), how could I say no?

Walked out to this bizarre, yet totally normal, letter on Friday night. Apparently, it's filming season in the city. Christmas two weeks ago, and now criminal acts shall be committed in my lobby. I will not be volunteering my apartment, despite how cool it could be to have my abode featured as the teeny tiny apartment of some struggling artist in NYC who is inevitably murdered leaving only his brilliant, unrecognized work and a bloody crime scene behind. My desire to keep my little place a crime-free zone wins out. Insurance and promises of moo-lah be damned.

This is what 250 points at Sephora gets you. I needed a case and it's so darn cute! It also solidifes that I will not be upgrading to the iPhone 6 anytime soon. How can I when I just got this new case? :)

I need a new coffee table. For all my pretty, new, soon-to-be-mine coffee table books, of course. This one I saw in a shop window is perfect. Except for the fact that I can't remember where I saw it and I didn't get the store name in the photo. Fail.

This Maze Runner got seen on opening night because, hello, have we forgotten? Dylan O'Brien. His performance was outstanding. I love his ability to portray so much without saying anything and act with his entire body. Go see it for The Dylan!

Saturday was an icky day. I wasn't feeling to great. The Annual Block Party for my street took place during the afternoon, effectively blocking off all traffic. I ventured out for a bit, but failed to take any pictures, hence the random photo below of some other block's party from last year. Think street fair only smaller. I forewent my friend's awesome 80's prom party and spent the night inside decorating. A post is to follow, but here's a sneak peek :o

My fashion sense is kinda all over the place. I don't stick to a particular aesthetic. My fashion icons are Blair Waldorf and Carrie Bradshaw, two very different styles but they work together. That skirt and top combo in the background of the 2nd photo is perfection.

I love, love, love this phrase!

And Sunday was spent how all Sundays are spent. Watching football, planning for the upcoming week and browsing blogs and YouTube. Except mostly football :) Pizza, for everyone, and new Brady shirt for me! I'm also losing in the blogger fantasy league and none to happy about it. So there's that :\ #soreloser

Also, want to drop these two little gems here... Lucky me, I'm guest posting on Kay's blog tomorrow. So head over there for an extra dose of my lunacy! I'm sure you'll want to stick around her blog once you're there. Also, the BookClub linkup for The Darkest Minds review will be happening on September 30th, so be sure to check back here and link-up then!

Hope your weekend was recap-worthy :) Tell me about it.

That Weekend I Binge-Watched Orange Is The New Black

Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Why can I like never show up for class on Monday? It's as if I'm programmed against it. You guysss, I'm allergic to Mondays! Anyway, with all the talk of the second season of Orange Is The New Black, I got curious enough to press play on Netflix a few weeks ago. One season in the books and now I'm itching to binge watch the next one. The thought of waiting a year for a third season is the only thing staying my hand from that play button once more. It is so good! So in honor of my new found tv love, I present my weekend in OITNB gifs, because why not?

On Friday night, I sat down to read a few pages of the 5th Mortal Instruments book and got sucked into the Clary/Jace drama. Humans were dead to me for approximately three hours, both in the literary sense and quite literally. I was not to be bothered for anything less than a near-death experience. Shadowhunters owned my existence.

Then, I start laughing hysterically into my book at the snark that is Jace Wayland and I'd read the line to my boyfriend, expecting him to crack up with me, except he didn't.

My goal for the month was to write 20,000 words, which is 5K per week. On Friday night, I was only one thousand in, and could think of nothing to write. Like nothing. I was uninspired, and it was driving me crazy. Eventually, I thought "maybe I should kill off a character or two".

Then I thought better of it and stopped thinking I had to write something that changes people's worlds.

In fact, I stopped overthinking in general, put on some music and just wrote whatever came. I ended up with a total of 4,000 words for the week, and a desire to share it with anyone that would listen.

When I got back from my Saturday morning workout, which killed me, all I wanted to do was lay down in my bed and go to Jamba Juice at the same time. Clearly, impossible. For a few minutes before eventually walking my ass to Jamba, I just sat on my couch, feeling sorry for myself.

I was looking forward to getting my hair done on Saturday. And by looking forward, I mean counting down every sweaty workout because I hate the way my hair looks after working out. Getting my hair done by someone else always makes me feel like a new woman. Dry Bar had me walking down the street like:

There's a bar/lounge/restaurant by my apartment that looks like the kind of place where 20-somethings go for a drink after work, and the music blaring onto the street is always pretty current. I decided I needed to check it out. When I walked in Saturday night decked out in  4-inch heels and a cocktail dress, I was instantly disappointed. It was like I just walked into a dusty, dim-lit dive bar that serves questionable food from it's back room. I was not feeling it.

And then I made a bee line for Cafeteria and their amaze-balls mac & cheese. Because mac & cheese makes everything better. I skipped home good and drunk, and of course, well-fed.

I legit dreamed of salty, buttery popcorn on Saturday night and my craving lead me to the movie theater Sunday night. For some unknown reason, I thought it would be a good idea to go see Think Like A Man Too that night, which ended up being a colossal waste of $14. But then again, I'm not sure what any of us expects from a sequel to a movie that was originally based on a book, when there's no sequel book. So I sat through the movie, munching on my small popcorn and looking up completely lost when the whole theater laughed.

The fact that the final season of True Blood premiered Sunday night made me kind sad. The final Eric scene of last season had me looking like the surprise emoji and I needed to know if he died while sunbathing naked in those snowcapped mountains (insert raised eyebrows emoji). But did we even see Eric or hear about his fate in last night's episode? Nopeee. For now, I'm holding on to hope that he burrowed beneath the snow to safety.

Then I shaved with shampoo instead of conditioner and totally razor burned by legs. It itches and every time I scratch, it starts to burn :( All because I neglected to read the bottle before lathering up. Lesson learned.

Now I'm tempted to watch all of Season 2 in one sitting this weekend. Another weekend planted on the couch. Oy ve! How was your weekend?
